How To Draw Taper 1 In 30

Default What does 1:30 taper on diameter mean?

The print calls for a 1:30 taper on diameter over a tapered bearing fit.
I was given a sinebar to measure over the tapered fit to get correct size.

Done on like it but a different size a while back,I worked out the angle and did the job ok,the way it worked was I laid the sinebar on the taper at a given location from the shoulder to mic the correct size. With the sinebar I was able to mic from one end to the other on the sinebar and get a dead nut measurment from one end to the other over sinebar.

on this one first thing I did was lay SB on mill table and figure what taper per 1/8 inch was, length of fit is 4.000 at .0043 per 1/8 which worked out to .1376''.On the print I have a minor and major plus length for referance, the sinebar I have is tapered on both sides.I had to double what I worked out on the SB to be able to get given referance numbers on print.

Shaft is roughed out to .050 over right now.The print shows the wide end of SB on the small end of taper. When I measure across it there is .130 something differance on SB from one end to the other,if I turn SB backwards and run indicator across it on the taper I get zero movement on indicator whish tells me my taper is the same as one side of SB.

Best i can figure is I have the wrong SB?

Seems the other job I did a while back that the SB used for it was tapered on one side, the other side was sqaure with ends, this one is tapered from on both sides.

Thanks for any info you can give.
